Cyber Security & Why “Stay Safe in October”

This October marks the 6th Annual National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.  Yep, it’s a mouthful.

But it definitely passes the “National ___ Month” test for a reason: a topic so ever-present in American lives but never noted enough.  This month, the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) encourages us to learn more about the “national security priority” that is the US communications infrastructure.

October Is Natl CyberScty Awareness

It benefits everyone to pay attention during e-commerce transactions, while Internet banking, and before downloading mobile applications.  Make sure your email, Internet browser and network settings support your security: use PayPal for transactions, disable unknown pop-ups, sign out of “authenticated sessions” and don’t automatically download all email attachments.

As someone who has had their wallet stolen twice…but credit cards used fraudulently only the first time…I have learned a few lessons about online safety the hard way.  Avoid the risks by exploring the NCSA’s official website, for online security considerations for yourself and business:
